    Interesting...
"A propaganda campaign code named Operation Sauerkraut - which included Nazis portrayed as hairy monkey preying on innocent women in lurid pornographic photos - has been revealed for the first time.
A new book called Spiritual resistance from the Outside chronicles how American intelligence agents waged the misinformation war to try to break German morale during World War II.
This included sending ordinary soldiers forged letters intended to make them believe that their wife, girlfriend or sister was having casual sex while he was fighting on the front lines.
The Office of Strategic Services - OSS, the forerunner of the CIA - ran Operation Sauerkraut with the aid of some 400 exiled Austrian intellectuals, deserters and anti-Nazis who managed to flee the country after Hitler absorbed it into the Reich in 1938.
Historian Florian Traussnig dug into recently declassified OSS files to reveal how Washington 'created propaganda with a special content for an Austrian audience to aid in the silent resistance'.
Operation Sauerkraut was launched in 1944 and ran until the end of the war to 'demoralize their opponents, to break them and make them incapable of fighting effectively'.
The new book, called Spiritual resistance from the Outside, describes the propaganda campaigns used by the United States during World War II
The pornographic photos and stories of Nazis attacking 'innocent wives' were dropped by plane and circulated by 'intelligence penetration squads' from defecting ex - prisoners of war, who were disguised as ordinary Wehrmacht soldiers.
Operation Sauerkraut was born on July 21 1944, one day after a failed assassination attempt on Adolf Hitler at his Wolf's Lair HQ in East Prussia."

Any word there on how effective this campaign was? I doubt it was that effective. A better line would have been: "The war is almost over. Surrender now before a jabo gets you or a Sherman tank buries you in your hole!"
