AAK! More parts needed, ASAP BBC News - East Midlands Airport shut by Spitfire undercarriage collapse
The plot thickens! 'An excavation team searching for a stash of Second World War era British Spitfires in Burma says it has found a wooden crate believed to contain one of the planes, but it is full of muddy water. It was not immediately clear how much damage the water may have caused, and searchers could not definitively say what was inside the crate. But British aviation enthusiast David J. Cundall, who is driving the hunt for the rare Spitfires, called the results "very encouraging."' Burma Spitfire search finds water-filled crate that may contain plane - Telegraph
Maybe we'll get the results sometime in the summer....... They really seem to be 'milking' every possible P.R. angle -- and all this after lots of rather useless news conferences and 'important announcements' during November/December.
Wow - muddy water has been found in one of the World's wettest countries...... Stay tuned...................................................................................................
If it has wet soil, ship the whole container to New Mexico......drought you know......we seem to be a natural desiccant.
A heads-up so you can all get some beers in.... ...according to the UK Warbird 'bush telegraph', a News Conference is scheduled at the Park Royal Hotel, Yangon, Burma on January 20th. Rumour also has it that BBC and ITV film crews have departed for Burma. So maybe something definite will finally appear........................?
And in a related news story, tresure-hunters in Libya searching for rare British WWII relics have found a huge cache of............SAND! Or another "Just wait and see" announcement.
They just have to come up with the goods this time.......speculation in the UK press and online is reaching bizarre proportions and flame wars are breaking out between 'glass half full' and 'glass half empty' people...... Can't spin this one out much longer.
It appears that the "natives are getting restless". From a Burmese newspaper today: Doubts over Spitfire "Amid the enthusiasm, some observers are sceptical. “It’s hard to believe Spitfires were buried here. We wonder how they buried them without anybody knowing, at a time when there was little or no heavy digging machinery, how they sealed the lips of the participants, why [the British] didn’t dig up them back after they gave us independence,” said Mizzima managing editor U Sein Win."
According to someone who is actually on the spot & contributing to another Forum, digging with excavators is due to commence midweek ( ie this week ). It's also been clarified that previous borehole investigations revealed only pieces of wood and that nothing was found or seen which could be identified as aircraft material. The suspense is almost unbearable ! Roll on Sunday................................................
For those of you who I know are glued to this thread, the following comment has appeared on other sites today, apparently from someone closely connected to the expedition :- ' They have a lot of digging issues. Power cables etc......they have only managed to put a camera down and have only just begun to dig.Not an easy country to get things done.' .................................watch this space !
