I had done this one a few years ago but didn’t like the paint job. It had too many coats of paint to try to get the color right. I threw it, after a few years too. This one flew off the Gilbert Islands in 1944. Sometime in mid or late 1944 they went from the tri color blue to all blue. I was not about to attempt that anyway. I bought this can of spray paint at Lowe’s, Krylon matte midnight ink. I’m happy with it ……….basically. The decals are of good quality. The wing to root fit gave me some trouble but I refrained from too much cussing. IMG_1476.jpeg IMG_1478.jpeg IMG_1480.jpeg IMG_1481.jpeg

Thanks. Must have been a real challenge flying these on carriers. That’s why they stopped or so I read. One thing was the hard view over the long nose to land them there, and then something about the way they leaned to one side while landing them until some weight was added to one of the wings. Bad crashes there. I am not sure the details until I would look it up. But airmen died in these and not just in combat. They are my favorite World War II fighter.

Pappy would be pleased...Ba ba ba...
Not sure what the real problem was - Probably too much torque roll. Bit of screw damage to the decks too...

Thanks, yes and I keep saying that I am coming to the end of this hobby. A bit shaky now at 78. At it off and on since around 1956. But then I get bored. One day soon. Here is one more with the rear canopy outlined. I just used black magic marker as I had no dark blue marker. IMG_1492.jpeg

You can fly your RC in winter too BIAK...Put your own paint scheme on and name it after the wife? (My fall back for a paint scheme is the Starsky and Hutch car design)...Beautiful bright red with a white line running down the centre tapering off at the nose...

I'm so jaded if I can't sit in the seat, pull back on the stick and feel that horsepower, it's all anticlimactic. Sooo... First chance I get the bank account is going to drop a few.

If I were insanely, Obnoxiously, and Filthy Rich I'd have one of these. But, I'm dirt poor and only dream at night.

I could care less What the color was. If it had a Swastika on it I'd fly it! Well, maybe a new paint scheme but you know.

The Luftwaffe didn't want no stinking swastika on their aircraft...They already had an illustrious history with their own culture and insignias...A few threats from Georing about fighting on the front quickly changed their minds.

When the PBYs started arriving near the Indianapolis survivors they clamored aboard and used anything to keep from going back into the water, including kicking holes in the wings to hang on. I forget how many PBY crews had to be rescued along with the swabies.

    Not sure mate...But:

"Lieutenant Marks, summoned from the island of Peleliu, piloted the first rescue plane to arrive. He dropped three life rafts in the late afternoon, but one broke up when it hit the water. He then polled his crew members about whether they should make a dangerous open-sea landing that was forbidden by regulations. When they agreed, he set down his PBY5A Catalina plane, known as a Dumbo, amid 12-foot swells. The plane bounced 15 feet in the air after hitting the waves, but incurred only slight damage."
