tanks at Fort Knox Ky July 1963

I was a 23 year old US Army Recruit there for BCT the tankers in the M48 knew they had a soldier watching them with envy. As they passed by our barracks, they gunned the engine, flames shot out of the exhaust they were getting a big kick out of impressing the fresh fish. It was me, but later I found out that they had non-balistic hulls and would not be used in real combat. that those tanks were only used for training. the steel would not stand up to fire.
