Trying to do a bit of harried research here at work, and wonder if anyone could help me. What specific tank or tanks would you have seen with the British military in Berlin right after the second world war? Thanks kindly for any help.
Mostly Comets, judging from the pictures I've seen. But also Close Support ( CS ) Cromwells and even a few Challengers.
I think the close support Cromwells were actually Centaurs (although the only difference between Cromwell and Centaur, I think, was the engine, Leyland or Meteor). I would also imagine there'd still be a few Shermans about at that time, either standard or Firefly...
Only 80 Centaur IV were built. I don't know what happened to them, but most Centaurs were either re-engined and became Cromwells, or they were used for training. It would be a lot more likely that a CS tank seen in Berlin right after the end of WWII was a Cromwell VI
I know the brits had the Conqueror in Germany, but dont know if it were deployed in Berlin: it also had a ARV:
