I wrote this poem for Rememberance Day two years ago and as a senior cadet at my squadron i was asked to read it to a town and church full of people and veterans. It brought tears to some of their eyes about their time in service. some veterans thanked me and asked for copies. In the fields of yonder year, old friends voices I can hear Calling out and shouting, commands with no fear Of all the things they've seen and done No wonder some wanted to turn and run Back home to England where their loved one Sits and waits for them to return But some poor lads won't make it back As their commrades still attack They lie there in no man's land Hoping God will lend them a hand But if he is too late to help They will not cry or yelp They did their bit, they did their best Now they've gone their mates are there to do the rest They march on to victory and home Knowing that all the time they are not alone As they advance over the no man's land They have their rifle tight in hand Most knowing that it could be the end Not knowing if there's a German round the bend No matter what, their fight for everything till the end Until the whole battlefield is coloured blood red With millions of poppies that represent the honoured dead.
tatty, Thank you for sharing this poem... It's neat to analyze each line, reflecting on the words expressed. Makes you appreciate our veterans that much more! at least for me anyway Mark

Mark, here is my second poem hope u enjoy reading it please feel free to leave feedback. The flight of life. As the wind goes rushing byAircraft soar up in the skyOff over the white cliffs of DoverHoping soon it will all be overThrough white clouds oh so fluffyOnto battlefields red and scruffyDescending lower target in sightPraying that they will win this fightAll having faith in their metal angels of deathTaking away the enemies last breathAfter flying the days last flightThey push their aircraft home with all their mightDesire to be over the bright cliffs of homeDelighted but sad at the sight of their aerodromeSad at the loss of amazing brave soulsNone will be forgotten when the bell tollsFor every year we will remember them.

My Dad and my Sister "Winnie" never got into the air, but as members of the RAF they were NCO's on the ground in support and proudly got "The Few" to where they were needed most! Thank you for this wonderful poem...
