Heh, its pretty good in my opinion,

    remember though

its a movie Mark Hamill HAD to take because it was hard for him to get work after Star Wars.

The best scene in the one with the Sniper in Sicily

It's a very well made movie and has a few minor stars in it and also has Lee Marvin as: "The Old Sergeant."

Mark Hamill took the role of Private Griff because he did not want to be stereotyped as a young street punk like in "Corvette Summer."

The cast seemed to be a very good one and really worked out well. You have Robert Carradine as Zeb, Kelly Ward as Johnson (The soldier with the hemmeroids problem) and a few other good actors. The part of the German Sergeant--Sergeant Schroeder (the one who shoots a man in Africa for not wanting to march behind the tanks and eating dust) as well as the German Sergeant who tries to ambush an American Patrol led bt Lee Marvin, at the area where the ww1 Big Red One Memorial was setup as well as a large cross with a Crusified JESUS, on it.

The movie is pretty factual about where the Big Red One fought throuought the war. The fighting and routing that happened at the Kasserine Pass, the invasion of Sicily, Italy, France--march and retreat through Belgium and back again. As well as liberating Birkenau Concentration Camp, I thought was all very well done.

To me--the most memorabe scenes in the movie started with the German Sergeant shooting that soldier as their record played played The Horst Wessel March.

The next most memorable scene is at the Kasserine Pass when The Old Sergeants squad runs away and the Sergeant stands his ground--and gets wounded and captured. He wakes up in a German hospital with a German Doctor pointing out that the Germans won and the Amis lost. After that the sergeant talks to a soldier lying in the next cot--and believe it or not--the person who played that soldier is my Brother-in-Law.

The Christ on the Cross ambush scene is also very memorable to me. The artillery barrage scenes in the forest and Concentration Camp scenes are also very memorable. But, I think the most riviting scene in the movie for me was, watching Mark Hamill chasing a German soldier into the Camps Cremation Ovens--and when he finally finds the German who is out of ammo and he then shoots that German about 20 or so times.

Need I say more? Especially if you got that DVD at such a price--you got a great bargain.

By the way, where did you get that movie at for such a low price? I've been looking for a copy of it myself.

To me, what's most memorable about The Big Red One is that opening musical fanfare. It's emotionally moving music to hear; it makes me think of two things--that in our sires' and grandsires' day, they bestrode this narrow world like giants; and also, that we may never see their like again.

    Yours,
    Paul
