OK Ladies and Gents, I've been toying with posting this one up for a while.

How about we have a sort of Forum-Oscars? First off we'd have to sort out the awards categories of course, so whatever anyone want's to suggest. Most Knowledgable, Most Helpful, Most Humourous, Most Pedantic, The Merlin Award For Punning, whatever.....

And of course the system of deciding the outcome (I'd suggest nomination by members, but nominations voted on by Mod/Admin).

Purely for fun and laughs, nothing controversial and to be taken in an entirely good natured and non-serious way.

    Thoughts?

Do I get a Special Achievement Award for being the oldest still active member?

All in favor of a "most posts in 3 word story-award"?
It would be hell for the admins to sort that one out. :p
    Still, fun idea.

    Forum Awards.

Best Idea for a long time!
'Skua'... you mean 'Oldest' as in age? or as the 'Oldest' with regard posts.?Sorry...membership.
I think my suggested award would be for the biggest 'Walt' (an army expression for a 'Walter Mitty' character!)
definitely the best pun goes to 'Ossian' for the 'Punning Clans' or was it 'Clanning Puns'?

I mean "oldest" as in oldest membership and still active. I was the third member to sign up on this forum, the second actually if you don't count in crazypit who was the owner of the forum back then. Neither him nor diablo are active anymore as far as I can tell.

But I am sure, even though I'm closing in on 40, that I'm not the oldest fart around here yet. ;)

OK. Seems like we have some support for the idea. So what about categories? To prevent it getting out of hand I'd suggest limiting the number of categories to about twelve maximum, split roughly equally between semi-serious (like "Most Knowledgable") and the not so serious (I'd really like to see the Merlin Award for Punning :D ).

I'd like to suggest some categories I think are a good starting point, at this point I'm not trying to make up a 12 category quota, just kicking things off here.

    Most Knowledgable (Tanks) Poster
    Most Knowledgable (Non-Tanks) Poster
    The 1950willys Award for Modelling
    The Best Conduct Award
    Most Helpful Poster

    Most Prolific Poster
    Most Pedantic Poster
    Most Humourous Poster
    The Best Thread Starter
    The Merlin Award for Punning

Just to reiterate, you wont get anything for this except the satisfaction of being able to tell anyone who cares (Probably no-one, but feel free to put it on your CV/Resume if you really want to) that you were 2007's Official Most Pedantic Poster (For example), maybe someone will have time to knock up a certificate for you, but probably not.

    As before, comments are appreciated.

Roel has got the most prolific poster hands down. Maybe someone can make a homemade trophy, or get a cheap one ? Like a block of wood with a walnut with googly eyes glued on :D

Does Roel still have 19.5% of the messages?

Most profilic and most pedantic are giveaways. :D

The Merlin Award for Punning is not just the satisfaction of being able to tell anyone who cares, as Simon says (no pun intended), but a kick in the ass if the winner ever should be so unfortunate to meet me. ;)

Y'know I really like that idea! Christmas is coming up so walnuts shouldn't be a problem, googly eyes are cheap enough and I have enough spare crap... erm... material in the garden to use for a lump of wood, we may just have ourselves a forum official trophy by New Year!

    :D

This is the neatest idea I've heard in a while. I'll be sticking around to see who wins what.

    Errrrr!

I was going by 'Posts per Day' and as Ricky has not been a member as long as Roel I thought he'd be the one! :(
(and I never was much good at maths!
Mind you, commando had a 10. something rate the other day!

He's closing in on Roel though, who has only 10.81% of the messages now ( what has happened to this forum while I was away? ).

But still, every five message has been written either by Ricky or Roel. :D

Perhaps we should have an award for fastest poster as well?

I'll provide the kick in the ass. :D

Skua, as a life member of the RSPCA I object to you going around kicking donkeys!
