Slightly off topic but still, I was watching the John Wayne film 'the green berets' earlier today (so I am guessing at least Carl knows what I am on about ) and noticed that the soldier they send ahead after the landing is armed with an M16 type weapon that has a rediculously large magazine, looks like it is designed to hold rounds that are considerably longer than the standard ones, anyone know what that would be?
Hi Stef/Nr 9 If the scene I am thinking of is what your talking about, the Magazine size is correct. Is this the scene where they sent a scout out who in turn was ambushed by 3-4 VC? He manages to kill all the VC before he dies. Nr 9, the VC DID use Carbines as well as any other kind of weapon you can think of. They widly used Garands, WW1 and WW2 captured German weapons that the Russians sent to them including Mausers etc. They used what was on hand--French Mas rifles were common as well as Japanese Aricka rifles to old Arab muskets and Chinese swords.
I am not sure, I swear the magazine looked huge, oh well, I may have been wrong. As for VC weapons, I remember seeing a photo of VC troops with M3's and MP40's.
