Just got this DVD yesterday. Been wating months nor for the price to drop but--apparently--it ain't going to do so. $23.00 for this DVD. :(  [IMG] [IMG]

This movie is classical all around.

You have Gregory Peck, Anthony Quinn, David Niven, Stanley Baker, Anthony Quayle, and Walter Gotell. With Richard Harris as a RAF unit Commander. And thats the bloody truth. [IMG]

What's your esteemed opinions on this movie?

I've seen it probably 30 times over the years--and never tire of it. [IMG]

    Sorry Carl -

Gregory Peck and David Niven, sure, the cast is great, but personally never liked the script. Greece never was/is my favorite theater of the war any way.

If I had of known you were wanting a copy of this, I'd of sent you mine instead of giving it away locally.

No problem. I don't know--i've just always liked the movie--tho I don't care much for the theater it was in either but--the cast was superb.

I studied how the various actors worked together and was really amazed at their capacity to do so well together.

Gregory Peck as always put 100% effort into his acting. I especially like the scene just after the traitor was shot by the other lady and he was alone with Niven and said: "You have me in the mood to use this thing...and if you don't perform...im going to use it on you." Or something like that.

Anthony Quinn as always was a pleasure to watch. He did so well with his scenes like: after they were all captured--and a German Oberleutnant was questioning them ((Walter Gotell)) and Quinn does his "coward act" quite well. Then the SS Officer enteres and slaps Quinn twice calling him a liar and with each slap--Quinn really looked like he wanted to rip the SS officers head off--all the while trying to be a coward--brilliant.

What I did not like was on a few occasions--Quinn used his teeth to pull the pin from the Grebades he threw. ((( And everybody worldwide--blames John Wayne for doing that when in fact--he never did pull pins from Grenades with his teeth.

I've seen Quinn do it in at least two movies--this one and "Back to Bataan"--which also starred John Wayne.

I thought that Stanley baker did a fine performance as well as Anthony Quayle and Richard Harris.

Bill--thank you for the thought on offering it to me as a gift--i'm greatful for it and greatful to have you as a friend. [IMG]

I also really liked the movie. I also agree with you too in the fact that Greece is not my particular favorite area, but the movie was great.

I do have a question though. What type of guns were those that the German's had? Were they like rail-guns mounted in the mountain or what?

Not sure on the guns--I think these were the types used on Battleships--but not sure.
