The leader of the Tea Party Express shows his "true colors"! May I hear an Aha? or should it be an Amen?
For even more fun, keep this in mind. One does start to wonder just what the "Tea Party" is so p.o.-ed about. It cannot be their individual tax burden (unless they make way too much money to complain about), and it shouldn’t be about the size of government and "Wall Street" money makers, since they want to regulate them, somehow with out increasing government size or authority. Hmmmm. Bruce Bartlett, former adviser to President Reagan and Treasury Department economist under George H.W. Bush, wrote on March 19 that "federal taxes are very considerably lower by every measure since Obama became president. And given the economic circumstances, it's hard to imagine that a tax increase would have been enacted last year": As noted earlier, federal taxes are very considerably lower by every measure since Obama became president. And given the economic circumstances, it's hard to imagine that a tax increase would have been enacted last year. In fact, 40% of Obama's stimulus package involved tax cuts. These include the Making Work Pay Credit, which reduces federal taxes for all taxpayers with incomes below $75,000 by between $400 and $800. According to the JCT, last year's $787 billion stimulus bill, enacted with no Republican support, reduced federal taxes by almost $100 billion in 2009 and another $222 billion this year. The Tax Policy Center, a private research group, estimates that close to 90% of all taxpayers got a tax cut last year and almost 100% of those in the $50,000 income range. For those making between $40,000 and $50,000, the average tax cut was $472; for those making between $50,000 and $75,000, the tax cut averaged $522. No taxpayer anywhere in the country had his or her taxes increased as a consequence of Obama's policies. See: Despite historically low tax burden, Rove, Fox & Friends push myth that America is "overtaxed" | Media Matters for America And don’t whine that it came from Media Matters, numbers are numbers. No matter how others try to distort them, facts are facts. As an example see Forbes; Goto: The Misinformed Tea Party Movement - Forbes.com Another laugher is the "constitutionality" of the new Health Reform Act requiring an "individual mandate" for citizens to purchase something from someone whether they want the item or not. Somehow they conveniently forget the 1792 Militia Act. As per the George Washington era? (maybe he was a communist/socialist/fascist too!) Republican lawyers and attorneys general around the country are preparing challenges to the healthcare reform bill on constitutional grounds,… Along those lines, one of the favorite complaints against the healthcare reform bill is that the founding document doesn't permit the federal government to order anyone to buy a product or service. That supposedly renders illegitimate the individual insurance mandate that is part of the bill. As every fervent advocate of gun rights ought to know, however, that argument suffers from a glaring historical flaw. Only a few years after the nation's Founding Fathers ratified the Constitution, Congress approved the Militia Act of 1792, which was duly signed by George Washington, then the president and commander in chief. Establishing state militias and a national standard for their operation, the Militia Act explicitly required every "free able-bodied white male citizen" between the ages of 18 and 45, with a few occupational exceptions, to "provide himself with a good musket or firelock, a sufficient bayonet and belt, two spare flints, and a knapsack, a pouch with a box therein to contain not less than twenty-four cartridges, suited to the bore of his musket or firelock, each cartridge to contain a proper quantity of powder and ball; or with a good rifle, knapsack, shot-pouch and powder horn, twenty balls suited to the bore of his rifle, and a quarter of a pound of powder.." Within six months, every citizen so specified had enrolled and notified of his required militia service had to equip himself as specified above (even using private suppliers to gain the material). There was spirited debate in Congress as to whether the state ought to subsidize the purchase of arms for men too poor to afford their own, so that everyone could serve his country. Subsidized or not, however, the founders saw no constitutional barrier to a law ordering every citizen to buy a gun and ammo. (all bold mine) See: So George Washington was a socialist, too! - Joe Conason - Salon.com If an individual mandate was good enough for the framers of the Constitution, George Washington; et al, it is good enough for me.
I'm telling every one here and now that if this discussion gets out of hand, I will be knocking heads. We just got the last Obama/Tea Party brouhaha settled down.
Brouhaha is a good word, I just wished I knew where it comes from. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ No apology is needed from you, Mike. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I'm not barking at y'all telling you not to discuss this, just don't show your butts when you do.
It was brough to the U.S by the Cajuns who got it from the French in 1552 who adopted it from a Hebrew abreviation = Baruch habba = blessed be he who arrives . This was used as an aplause to cheer a newcomer. Later this was associated to a noisy mess and this brings us back to the stump (noisy mess)
everyone seems to have a bitch these days no matter what side of the fence post you're on. personally I find it tiring, we all have better things to do ladies/gents.
This seems to be a trend among the current crop of conservative political pundents. Here is something from one of the newspapers in my area: UPDATED: Redding radio host under fire for presidential 'fried chicken' comment » Redding Record Searchlight
formerjug think both parties are being equally as stupid........ think I'll go back to watching the crock about Ophrah's dirty laundry, might be more entertaining plus educational
Not everyone is bitching about their local politicians Erich, it's mostly a Americano-Amercian debate. There is sometimes a thread about Gordon Brown , possibly a Putin one here and there, but we have to admit that the fire is 99% aimed at Obama by a few members that can be counted on one hand. Maybe we should buy them a few great WW2 classic DVD's , as they seem to be bored to death and are ready to waste their time, trying to convince each other (they already convinced anyway) they do not like their president. Whne they grow tired of this maybe they'll remember this is a WW2 forum and that their energy and time would be so much more valuable in other non political related threads.
Skip/Jug I ride with as many as 35 riders on a cycling training day, we have probably 3/4's of the liberal side compared to the conservative, what is great and possibly unique with this group is that politics are rarely discussed during our breaks every 25 or so miles out. what is neat is that both side of the line draw together and just ride for the fun of it and in comradere'. no pretentions just ride, enjoy each other and the views plus the beneficial exercise. I do wish to God that both US parties would get off their fat butts and go ride, imagine if you will down through Washington D.C. a host of men/women riders together. man that would be so fine. Yeah I'm a dreamer .......
If only, but that will never happen: power and greed will push politicians to get whatever influence they can, while pretending they actually serve their country. Why would they use a bike when they can get a jet paid by the tax payet in the first place? It makes me think of that guy who came up with a 160.000 euro bill to hire a jet because he was late for a coctail party.... You are so right to avoid politics in your discussions.
