The Teneru Guadacanal

    I did this diorama about 6yrs. ago. When I was a kid I saw a movie called "Pride of the Marines" about Al Schmidt He was a machine gunner. A [FONT=inherit !important][FONT=inherit !important]Japanese[/FONT] grenade went off in front of his position and he was blinded. But he fought on and was awarded the Navy Cross. This diorama does not due him justice.

    You know they got the name of the river wrong, right? Not that takes away from an excellent job, of course.

    The Ilyu River, or so I've heard. Ben Frank sorted that out, IIRC.

    So if he was blinded and fought on... does that mean he kept firing his machine gun blindly? Or took the feeder position? This is an excellent peice of work mate, brings warmth to the cockles...

    He had another guy there, hands wounded so he couldn't handle the gear. Together they made one very tough Marine.
