No, it was an old ship, mounting twelve 14" guns, as did several other ships. Because of her high loss of life and that the ship was not salvaged, but remained in situ as a reminder to all who passed her. That is debateable, depending on the armor arragements, radar suite, etc, but leaning toward the two Tennessee-class behemoths in the harbor, the USS Tennessee and the USS California, both have eight 16in guns. More knowldege members of the forum can give you a good run-down of the pros and cons, weight of broadside and all that. I respect the variation of British spelling of harbor/harbour, but Pearl Harbor is a proper name, for a US possession and as such, should be spelled without the "u". It is perfectly acceptable to refer to it as "the harbour at Pearl Harbor." Please don't think that I am grousing at you specifically, Spartan, I'm just on my soapbox and in need of taking a chill pill.
Tennessee and California have 12 14" guns. The Maryland and West Virginia had 8 16" I'd call it a tie between these ships.
