A controversial - or at best, very naive - woman. But you have to admit, 'Triumph Of The Will' was brilliant for its' time and still has great impact today.

    R.I.P Leni!

I think she was very talented as to the films she did ( I bet many directors would want to make films like she did but without the nazi philosophy ) but unfortunately she did it all for the nazis!

    :(

I hadn't seen this thread before... [IMG]

I just knew about her death yesternight during the Academy Awards Ceremony... :( :( :(

    I greatly admired the woman and I regret a lot her death. :( R. I. P.

She was controversial indeed. She always denied having liked Joseph Goebbels, but Dr. Goebbels mentioned Leni over and over again in his diaries, about "how great she is", "a very talented and beautiful woman", "we had dinner together", etc.

Let's not forget that Leni received a big budget for "Triumph des Willens" and "Olympia"... how could she had done that without being friends with Dr. Goebbels?

But Leni was not a nazi and certainly her film was only part of the propaganda. We can't blame her for expanding nazi ideology. She didn't create it, she didn't expand it alone and she didn't buy it. She just made an immortal piece of art of a disgusting and bad-taste party rally.

If it would have been the SD, or the KPD instead of the NSDAP to give her the money for a propaganda film, she would have made an excellent film about a communist or a social-democratic rally or whatever.

She was a genious and a talented woman. I regret her loss because of that. :(

I had figured that she had died years ago.
