    Hello

The attached picture is of a friend's mother with a GI in the little village of Bazoches-sur-Guyonne, about 50 K west of Paris, on the day it was liberated. The GI said he would returned but never did.

It's a massive long shot but I was wondering how I might go about trying to identfy him. Unfortunately there are no badges or insignia on his uniform. But I wondered if someone might be able to suggest which army group he may have belong to as a start. Any other ideas how I might approach this task very welcome.

Have you inquired with the French historical societies? Ask about records related to that village. Once you know the unit you can google for a historical society associated with that Army unit. You can also start a hunt in US records that may mention that town. The US Army Center of Military History may be able to help.

What day was it liberated? I am guessing sometime around 20 August? If so, he is almost certainly from a unit of Third U.S. Army and XX Corps, although XV Corps is also a possibility.

Looks more like First Army XIX Corps to me.

Doubtful ,XIX Corps eastern boundary became the Eure north from Dreux on 21/22 August. Looks more like XV Corps. Most likely 2d French Armored Division.
