One of the great Typhoon pilots of 609 Squadon, Squadron Leader Raymond 'Cheval' Lallemant DFC*, passed away in his home country of Belgium earlier this week.

He joined 609 in 1942, having escaped from Belgium via Morocco and Gibraltear. Flying the Typhoon almost exclusively from that time, at one time he was seconded to Napier as a test pilot for that aircraft. He was back with 609 for the Normandy fighting, specializing in rocket-firing ground-attack. In September 1944 he fell victim to German flak, crash-landing behind the Allied lines but suffering severe burns as a result.

Truly the passing of a great Belgian warrior.

The only info I have is that Lallemant was shot down over Belgium on 14th September, 1944 ( this from Ziegler's Story Of 609 Squadron' ).....

Erich I believe I posted his picture one Nick's Gilze-Rijen threat. Lallemant is standing next to his Typhoon.
