While digging through an old tin containing family photos I happened upon this one of a young man in the S.A.... Unfortunately I cannot make out the surname for the life of me! The back of the photo reads: "Rene' Sp...schein" in the uniform of the S.A. of the National Socialist Workers Party." At first I thought it might be "Sonnenschein," but it looks more like a lowercase "p" to me... He was mentioned in another letter I have, and I included that version also. If anyone could give me a hand with the name/identifying the insignia I would be much obliged!
Yikes! My eyes hurt from trying to figure it out. I blew up the photo but the collar insignia was to blurred to identify. Sorry and good luck.
Spuuewschein? To be honest I can't really tell either. I used that picture and used some different effects on it but I still couldn't read it that well. Maybe someone else will have better luck.
Thank you for sending pics It is Rene Sonnenschein, i have made the stroke on the O numerous times. I dont recognise the pic as family And I know that I am the only Rene Sonnenschein in our family. My father was in the Hitler youth during the war. The German side of our family is very small(in fact there is less than 10 of us) there is a greater number that are Jewish. Due to the times then ,our side is not Jewish. I will pass this on to see if we recognize pics
Sonnenschien without a doubt. The weird "o" is in fact a little mark in the Sünderlin writing to distinguisch this voyel from an "a" . Also Rudy could be short for René (and sound mark germanic than René which was fashionable in the 1920s but not after 1933) The other name is Kurt Berger
Rudy (or Rudi) is the short form of Rudolf and is unfortunately not related to Rene as far as I know. I just checked a telephone book map and there are roughly 1000 entries with Sonnenschein. Maybe he is some distant relative. http://www.verwandt.de/karten/absolut/sonnenschein.html
was Rudy his Christian name or just a call name? Do you have any Alsatian ancestry? The reason I ask is because I know about several examples of Alsatians and Lorranians who were called René or Rodolphe were later called Rudolf and Germanized their names in the 1930s and early 1940s.
Still working on it waiting go over this with my mother. - still think this is my great uncle rudi gover this with my
