Does anyone know the role different US training bases played during WWII? I'm particularly interested in Fort Grant IL, Camp Carson CO and Fort Lewis Washington. Was it mostly just based on geography or did the different bases train for different purposes?
Lots of them just got the troops used to which way to go when the order came to "right flank, march!" Others provided advanced training for specialties, such as jump school, tank school, "how to make prime rib taste like bologna" school, etc. Now, here's some links for you: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camp_Grant_(Illinois) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_Carson https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_Lewis
