The USS Texas has an interesting history. It is the only battleship that was in battle on three different continents and earned five battle stars. During Operation Torch a young reporter was staying on the USS Texas and on the way back Norfolk, Virginia he wanted to beat his rival (who was on the USS Massachusetts) so he could get the first report in on Operation Torch. He was given permission to be flown in when the ship got within flying distance of Norfolk and beat out his rival to get the first report in. His name was Walter Cronkite. The USS Texas is the last dreadnaught from the early 20th century and is currently having work done such as a complete paint job, repairs to the structure, tank cleaning, etc. This project will cost $35,000,000 and should be done next year. I'd have loved to be in a battleship when I rode out those hurricanes. I remember looking out the window of my barracks in Puerto Rico and seeing three "water spouts" twisting around in the harbor.
