    WEST UNITY,Ohio Vernell E. Carrington, 85, of West Unity, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, in the Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers-Montpelier.
    Born Feb. 7, 1922, at Fayette, to Lydia (Gibbons) and Edward Otis Carrington, he married Arlene Naomi McLaughlin on Nov. 19, 1939, and she survives.
    He attended Fayette High School and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Asiatic-Pacific Theater during World War II.
    Mr. Carrington began working for the Keller Pontiac car dealership in West Unity and then for Hayes-Albion Manufacturing in West Unity.
    A member of the West Unity First Presbyterian Church, he was also a member of the American Legion Post No. 669 of West Unity.
    Surviving, in addition to his wife of 68 years, are a brother-in-law, Clark McLaughlin of West Unity, and several nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John and Tom Carrington; and a sister, Mary Lou Prentice.
    Visitation will be today from 4-7 p.m. in the Hollingshead-Beck Funeral Home, West Unity. Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Dorothy Ritchey-Moore to officiate. Burial will be in the Floral Grove Cemetery, West Unity, with military rites by the American Legion Post No. 669 of West Unity.
    Memorials may be made to the EMS of West Unity, West Unity First Presbyterian Church or to American Legion Post No. 669, West Unity.
