Waldemar Levy Cardoso - last Brazilian Field Marshal

    Field Marshal Waldemar Levy Cardoso (1900 - 2009) passed away last wednesday, May 13. He was 108 years old. During World War II, as a Lt. Col., he commanded an artillery unit in Italy, along with the Brazilian Expeditionary Force.

    He was promoted Field Marshal in 1966, and was president of Petrobras (Brazilian national oil company) in 1969. He was the last Field Marshal of the Brazilian Army.
