War On Our Doorstep. ISBN 1-894384-46-6
"The unkown campaign on North America`s West Coast"
I bought it on holiday in Canada last week and I`ve only just started it. Only two chapters in at the moment, quite interesting so far.
    From the backcover:
"In June 1942,Japanese troops occupied the Aleution islands of Attu and Kiska in Alaska, the first enemy occupation of U.S. terrirory since the War of 1812. For the next year a bloody conflict raged that was nearly invisible to most North Americans, as Canadian and American soldiers, airmen and sailors went north to hold the Japanese in check"
The book states that when the Americans landed on these islands to reclaim them, there was some of the bloodiest fighting of the whole Pacific campaign.

It also covers such topics as Japanese subs shelling Canada and America, the submarine launched plane that bombed Oregon`s forests, the balloon bombs, the build up of American/ Canadian coastal defences in the area and the eventual American landings to retake the Islands.
