    Moroccan Wall of Shame

Why is it forgotten? Because it can't be politicized by Western media and politicians?

Maybe because the interests of local Saharan tribes are considered insignificant compared to the interests of Germany, or Israel and Palestine. Maybe because this wall has been around for a very long time and protesting against it will not change that situation, since the Spanish and Italians do so every year without result. But I agree that the situation is very much comparable to that of Israel's new wall.

By the way, the Great Wall of China is in fact more than twice as long as this one, contrary to what the article claims.

No, that's a myth, it can't be seen. Or so I have heard. It wouldn't make sense if it could be seen, because even though it's more than 6000 kilometers long, it's only a few meters wide.

    Link doesn't work.

This is one of the remnants of Cold War.
When Franco was in his dying bed and Spanish troops were pulling out, Moroccan king decided to take those lands (just in case Argelians decided to do the same, mind you).
Issue was raised tho the UN, but comission in charge was headed by the Soviets, and they didn't like too much the fascists that ended with comunism in Spain, so they doubted long enough for the ocupation (the "Green March") to become a "fait accompli".
Here nobody wanted to start a war for a piece of desert that had seen a few in the century, and the power vacuum during the dictator's illness and death didn't make it easier.

Of course, everybody puts the blame on "the other side", and this is too sketchy, but illustrates how politics end up messing things :D

Read Skua's link, it's all there. It is in fact a wall of fortifications and minefields, and it is in fact shameful because it limits the freedom and quality of life of the people on either side of the wall.
