I've also seen pictures of another soldier that Bush visited in an Army hospital. The soldier had lost part of one leg. Bush asked him what he liked to do as pass times. The soldier replied he enjoyed jogging.
Bush told the soldier when his leg healed and he had his prostisis he would come by and go jogging with him. The photo accompanying the e-mail I got showed Bush out jogging with this soldier.

fail to see what this has to do with WW2. The stories sound like lots of similar stories of leaders meeting the wounded in past years/conflict. Sounds like a good bit of publicity in the run up to an election. I hope he did it out of genunie care for the wounded, but I guess we will never know. AT least his publicity machine is working. Shame his brain aint...

But then I think Bush is a nutter...

    But then im english... :D

I do not believe this story to be true, not because I doubt Bush but because I found a 'true story' the details of which (location etc) are near to the details of this one, I have a suspiscion that this is an exageration of an already impressive story:

As you may know, the President and Mrs. Bush visited the Washington Burn Center on Friday 14 September. Among those they visited was LTC Brian Birdwell, who was badly burned in the Pentagon attack.

Mrs. Bush went into Brian's room, spoke to him for about a minute, all the time as if they had been long acquaintances. She then turned to Brian's wife Mel, who at this time had been at the hospital for probably 2 1/2 days, and apparently, according to Mel herself, was dirty, grimy and had blood on her shirt.

Mrs. Bush hugged Mel for what Mel said seemed like an eternity, just as if Mel were one of her closest family members.

Mrs. Bush then told Brian and Mel that there was "someone" there to see him.

The President then walked in, stood by Brian's bedside, asked Brian how he was doing, told him that he was very proud of them both and that they were his heroes.

The President then saluted Brian. Now, at this point in time, Brian is bandaged up pretty well. His hands are burned very badly as well as the back of him from the head down. His movements were very restricted.

Upon seeing the President saluting him, Brian began to slowly return the salute, taking, from the accounts so far, about 15-20 seconds to get his hand up to his head.

During all of this, 15-20 seconds, President Bush never moved, never dropped his salute. The President dropped his salute only when Brian was finished with his, and then gave Mel a huge hug for what also probably seemed like an eternity.

As a note to those of you who might not be familiar with military protocol, the subordinate normally initiates a salute and will hold it until the superior officer returns the salute.

In the above incident, President Bush acted in the role of the subordinate to show his respect and high regard for the injured man.

    ____________________________________________

That report came from a newspaper, say what you like about Bush, he knows how to pay a soldier the respect he deserves.

So? How did you find out?

Just cos it was not in a newspaper does not diminish its propaganda worth. Word of mouth spreads like gossip...

Its on the internet... Also does the fact that its word of mouth effect its viability? Just cos someone said so, doesnt mean its true...

I am not disputing that this happened. Not with friends of Georgie Bush here!

But I wonder as to the motive. I hope it was out of respect and gratitude that Bush visited with these men. Very rare a politician, madman or not, does something out of the goodness of their heart. There is always a secondary motive.

And this story aint gonna hurt his election campaign is it???

As someone once pointed out, this is not an argument for god so much as an argument against fox holes!

    San Antonio Express-News. 12 April 2003 (p. A10).

Roth, Bennett. "America at War: Hospital Calls."
    The Houston Chronicle. 12 April 2003 (p. A24)."

Im sure Bush was genuine in his response.

But it wont do his election campaign any harm...

Anyway, he better be genuine as he is sending these boys to war, so he better respect them.

    I read this somewhere...
Is it true that Bush hasn't attented any funerals for soldiers killed in Iraq?

I guess that's fitting for unpopular wars because LBJ is only known to have attended 2 funerals for soldiers KIA during Vietnam. The first funeral was for Captain Albert Smith, son of White House
correspondent Merriman Smith, which was held February 28, 1966. The second was for Major General Keith R. Ware, held September 17, 1968.

The poor man does not have time to attend 1000 funerals ! Sadly I don't see how the US military is going to get out of this anytime soon. :(
