What would happen if Hitler was never born? Would the War still have taken place, or was it just this power hungry monarch who was the main cause of the whole thing?

Well my guess is that if hitler had never been born there never wouldhave been a Nazi party...i believe the Nazi's were his creation?...i guess it is possible that some other nut could have taken power...but i think that the would NOT have taken place.

Actually, the Nazi party did exhist before Hitler joined. I think Hitlers party number was #5 or #7.

The Nazi party exhisted somewhere between a few months to a few years before Hitler became a part of it.

Either in one of Gordon Williamsons books or one of Christopher Ailsbys books, this is talked about quite a bit in the first few chapters of the book.

I dont remember which title it was in but I do remember that it was a hardcover title with a black cover.

    Hope this helps..

Yes, the Nazi party existed way before Hitler. He was recruited and was member 157 I think. It was a 3 digit number, I know that for sure. He made his way up with his oratory gift. He first became the spokesman. Then the head.

If he was not born, WWII would not have taken place in Europe. The Japanese would have gone on and may have become a pacific war instead. Mussolini would not have gone far if he started anything.

I agree that he started out as a spokesperson for the party, and eventually worked his way up to be the monarch. The main tool he used was corruption and propaganda. He made many believe from his speeches how good the party was, and as he gained popularity form the people, he was able to move higher and higher in the ranks and gain more power from each step he took. I also have heard about Hitler having cerain officers killed to gain higher office, not sure if this is true or not. But y starting out as the spokesperson, having the ability to speek with great enthusiasm and convince people to side with you, is one of the greatest powers a person can have.

A war would have taken place...
Not the WW2 we know from history, but a European conflict of some sort.
Perhaps even a German civil war of some sort.
Germany was seething with dissatisfaction for the govt. which existed in the inter-war period. By the time of the rise of the nazis, communists and other whack-job extremists were nigh on to splitting the country apart - I believe the German state of Bavaria actually planned to secede from Germany to form a communist-governed seperate state.
Recall also that it is now known that Io Stalin planned to invade Europe once nazi Germany had been battered about by the Western powers sufficiently to prevent her from resisting the Red Army.
Without the existence of the nazis, all the fantasists may well have seen their "Germany + Allies vs Russia" scenario, if Western Europe banded together against Russia in the manner of the convoluted mess of war & alliance/counter alliance of the 19th century...

Great Point Killyjoy, i agree that some type of war would have emerged, just because the country of Germany was like a balloon being filled up with air. It was just ready to pop no matter what.

In the late 20's and the early 30's there were two big parties in Germany: the Nazi's, but also the Communists.

Without a large Nazi-party, the communists would have been in the government under Von Hindenburg.

In that case Germany and Russia would have formed a pact and whole Europe would have been communistic.

I stand corrected. Hitler was member number 7. Don't know where my mind was at. He actually made the party bigger because of his oratory gift. Had it not been for that, the NSDAP would have been a one meeting wonder like many other parties of the German 20's.

Hitler's Party Number was 57. Actually 7, but they added the 5 to make the Party look bigger. It was the DAP (Deutsches Arbeiter Partei) created by Anton Drexler and others. Hitler raised rapidly because of his oratory and then became the head of it, but if he would not have been there, then the DAP qould have extinguished...

And WWII in Europe as we know it would NOT have happened at all. I will quote professor Ian Kershaw here: "Hitler cannot be replaced".

Actually, Hitler's Party number was number 5-but on his card,it says 555. This was done so that other parties thought they were up against a bigger fight should they try and contest them!!!

    Panzerknacker is absolutely right!

Hitler's party number was 555, I have just looked in a book where it comes a picture of his party member card. Whatever, he was 55 then.
