What is this?

    I found these in my grandfather's stuff and no one seems to know what it is. It was with all his war memorabilia, so I assume it was something to do with the war or the marines. Any ideas? View attachment 17436

    Is that the pic you meant to post? If so, is the string that is tied to it relevant or was it added later?

    It is on a string which could have been worn around the neck.

    I've never seen anything like it and I'd say with 80% certainty that it is not a military ("GI") item. It could be some souvenir he picked up while in the USMC -- is it made of wood?

    You were reading my mind, GP. I was going to ask if it was metal or wood. I also think it might be a personal memento, but not entirely certain.
