    Hi.

The attached photo is of my great grandad (middle). It is in an album surrounded by photos of my grandad during WWII - so I assume it is him doing some sort of “home front” role (like a warden of some sort?). Can anyone recognise the uniform and advise what it may be?

    Thanks

Looks like a fireman to me. The helmet, button down chest, and coverall type clothing...

I would go with National Fire Service. Note sure about the "M" on the helmet, unless it tells they were manning a medium trailer pump. It's all I can think of.
The helmets look like Plasfort ones-

    Whereabouts did he serve?

Could it be the first letter of a city or county? For instance Manchester?

    Thanks for your suggestions!

During WWII he lived in Oxford. It was the “M” that threw me. Could be Marston? Although he lived in Jericho at the time. Unfortunately the only people who would know have now all passed.

You could ask around at the municipal fire departments? At least in the US they tend to remember their history (and might have similar period photos).

I think you're on to something.. Under the M are the letters F B. I would guess the helmet is for a Fire Brigade. The M might be for a town.
I found a helmet with an M for Messenger. I don't think it applies here.
