Most interesting choice, Stevin. I've just looked up 11/1/44 in Roger Freeman's 'Mighty Eighth war Diary' which I'm sure you have already . . . Agree with Affentitten - we don't see enough on the forum about the 'damned tough old gut' - Italy. Actually, there have been a lot of books published in Britain about this campaign ( I just haven't got room for them ! )
# 1 guys, get a hold of yourselves please ! Geez !! # 2 for 11 January 1944 The Luftwaffe claimed 91 bombers, 5 P-47's 2 P-51's and 2 Spitfires. A total of 32 fighter gruppen and of these were 5 Night fighter gruppen, lost 38 pilots/crewmen killed, 22 wounded. A total of 53 a/c destroyed and 31 additionals with 60 % or less damaged..... Stevin and I have been collecting data on this battle for the past 1 1/2 years plus ! Keep up the reseach my friend E
Ive tried explaining things to both sides and hopefully they will be worked out--BOTH Friedrich and Timo are as valuable here as any other two members. I consider BOTH of you friends of mine.
I do prefer Waffen-SS with my studies. Previously I just collected pictures but these days as well learning the tactics, the back ground of men, and especially the most highly decorated men. The Finnish guys naturally are my favourites. Fave battles to read :Battle of Bulge, Kursk,HJ in Normandy, Kharkov in spring 1943. Fave soldiers: Peiper, Meyer, Rommel, Galland,Wittman,Hausser, Dietrich, Marseille, Rudel, Törni, Wunsche, Skorzeny.
Very nice favourites, Kai! We had already realised about some of them... And now I remember why I didn't like this thread...
When it comes to WW2, I'll pick up just about anything. Although to be honest, the Third Reich is especially interesting.
