Hello, I have relics from the 2. Kompanie Pionier-Bataillon 9 (Wehrmacht) and am trying to find where they served. Googling hasn't really given any info. Could someone help me please?
My book, German Order of Battle shows Pioneer Battalion 9 served with the 9 Infantry Division. Stackpole's German Order of Battle Vol 1 concurs.
There we go Jeff! Thanks a lot . I just found their guard shifts with name, dates, ranks etc... handwritten with a pencil in a copy book (Wache Buch). It is dated from June 1940 until the end of September, early October when they were apparently sent somewhere else and when this book was left behind in the house they were billeted.
Sure, allow me some time, I'm about to go out, but when I return I will scan a few pages with markings
Hi Skipper, here it is more information to the 9.th Pionier-Battaillon. Its in German but with Google you can translate it. Lexikon der Wehrmacht - Pi.Btl. 9
Thanks Ulrich and don't worry about the lingo German is not an issue and my mum taught it too me when I was a child. I read the text but there seems to be a gap between Sept 1938 and 1941.
From what I know they served in France and were sent to Poland in 1941 so they would be ready to take part in the invasion of Russia in June . They were in Paris on June 14th 1940. What I am trying to find out is where they were after the Armistice, especially after June 25th 1940 when the guard shifts start on my document)
Stackpole says the 9th ID was "on occupation duty in Western France until March 1941", but gives no exact location.
I know this is Wiki, but the 9th ID was destroyed in Ukraine in 1944. If I was you, I'd be more interested in the references provided. They are in German, which I do not read or speak. 9th Infantry Division (Wehrmacht) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
