Where in Italy is this?

    Can anyone identify this town in Italy? The shot is of New Zealand Soldiers taken sometime during word war 2.

    Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem.

    they may have confiscated some artworks, but that would really have made the news :)

    Wouldn't be the first time. A number of earlier temples were confiscated by early Christians and Muslims both. (The Pantheon, Parthenon, and Hagia Sophia come to mind.) I seem to recall reading that the dome at Al Aqusa, at least, was taken from an earlier Byzantine church, so it too may already be an example of some good old fashioned reappropriation. And of course the site itself had also been reappropriated once or twice. Maybe Rome is the new Jerusalem. Who knows? (Of course, given that some Russian Patriarch or other opined that Moscow was the third Rome, I'm a little baffled on what's where and what's what.) ;-)
