At my age (currently 91) one of the most irritating factors that you face is the loss of short -term memory, Long term memory? ........ no problem whatsoever and, at the drop of a hat, I can be back in Italy any time between 1943 & 1945 and I could even tell you what I had for breakfast ! As I said, it's the short term memory that suffers and so I frantically write down everything I can so that when I want it again it's there for me in black & white. Below, probably for the umteenth time, are links to tales I've already told and published on the BBC People's War site that cover the latter part of the war and my service with the 4th Queen's Own Hussars. I've got a similar list relating to the earlier part of my service and when i find it I'll post it here as well. Ron IMAGE ATTACHED 3. Diary Entries 11th April 1945 Page from Ron’s diary 4. LL: Ron' link to BBC People's War Archives Between the years 2004 & 2006 the BBC ran an internet site named BBC People's War. In recent years and most probably for economic reasons they have abandoned the previous excellent "search for an article" option. Fortunately the site has been archived by Wayback and can now be found using the following link. Click on: http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/ww2peopleswar/user/16/u520216.shtml It is suggested you then scroll down to "Stories contributed by Ron Goldstein" Select any article and then if you think that you could use any of the tales you are more than welcome, providing you quote the original source. Copy the article title into GOOGLE, follow it with :site bbc people's war. This should offer you a direct link to the original article itself
No worries Ron, my wish is to be alert as you when I am 91 myself ,if I'm not in already in heaven (or hell) . Besides your long term memory, you also still have a typical British sense of humor an no-one can beat that.
Just looking through this thread & saw Ron's post. He let us know that sadly his wife died earlier this month . 66 years of marriage , good going.
Dear friends When you have a minute to spare have a look at: http://ww2talk.com/forums/topic/60879-it-is-with-deep-sorrow/ Best regards Ron
Thanks Owen and you other gents. It has not been easy, but I have two wonderfully supportive daughters plus, as others have pointed out, nothing but wonderful memories When the dust has settled I shall start posting again on the Forum Best wishes Ron
I am very sorry to hear of your very profound loss, Ron. I can't even imagine the sorrow you must feel at her passing.
Ron, A "minute to spare." I would think that most here are honored that you would be concerned that we know of your loss.
I moved the condolences for Ron to a single area, but unfortunately the dates and times made them a bit mangled. Sorry about that.
