I came across this last night and thought it would fit into this thread...This from Tasmania... "In 2019, Sullivans Cove French Oak Single Cask was awarded “World's Best Single Cask Single Malt” at the World Whiskies Awards. This followed winning the same award for our American Oak Single Cask in 2018, making Sullivans Cove the only distillery in the world to ever win the award twice." "In 1804, a group of military, settlers and convicts lead by Captain David Collins settled at Sullivans Cove on the west bank of the Derwent river. The settlement would eventally grow into the vibrant and beautiful port city of Hobart." Note the convict arrow on the label...a quick check of the website and these bottles go for 400-1200 bucks!
Johnny Walker black label is good enough. ( I hate it when the Finnish computers try to correct the words to Finnish wording...)
There's "good enough" and then there's "good". Birthdays I get bottles, even a few Japanese scotches, but usually only 1-2 bottles that go on the shelf. The rest get stored away. Boss Lady will open a liquor store when I die.
I've always wanted that "Special" bottle for when Special friends visit. I had a shot of this that the guy who wrote the letter in Lt. Alger's Memorial thread shared with me. It would be nice to be able to Salute or just sit back with a Premium vintage when those special to me stop by. The best thing is, a small bottle will eventually be passed down to one of my Grandsons. I'm so lonely.
After 50 years I think I've found my niche. If you haven't tried Jack Daniels Tennessee HONEY whiskey, Who Boy How Are Ya! Smooth as Silk and best sipping whiskey I've ever tasted. Keep it neat and don't plan on anything for several hours. Chased with a Pabst makes all the Worlds worries just fade away.
Thanks CAC, I'm just recovering from today's chores and maybe? a bit too much Honey. But I sure feel fine
I like his style ! Merle had Two OR Three cigars a day, A Martini every day (Gin & sweet vermouth), golfed every day it was under a hundred degrees and passed at 99 ! I've started a similar life style. Pabst, cigars, physical actively - (but only in 15 minute spurts), and most importantly - I no longer put up with Dumb-Asses. Better to be alone than bite my tongue and endure the agony.
Hey you seem to put up with me!...And OP... I posted a house out in the sticks last night on Facey BIAK...On a lake in Fall (Autumn) - Thought of you.
I saw that and thought well okay but I'm pretty satisfied. Nothing fancy nothing above the ordinary but for a small town boy I'm doing okay. Well that and the Sunrises and Sunsets plus just standing in the doorway of the shed looking around and thinking Minnesota has it's drawbacks but God I love it up here. I'm nearing 70 so decided ain't nothing to get riled up about. Internet sucks, phone service sucks, Winters bite (Sometimes) but all in all - pretty damn good. At least I'm on the right side of the sod!! And You and OpanaPointer keep me going ! If nothing else just to make me shake my head and say, "Damn, I'd like to buy these guy a Beer" !
Or an iced coffee... Mate you are living the dream...The envy of many people im sure...Dreaming and doing are two different things - "He who dares wins".
ICED COFFEE ! Well to each their own. My wife and daughter both enjoy that but I like my coffee hot and black! Just like my wome...... Never mind.
Tale as old as time: The historic bond between the military and whiskey (militarytimes.com) "When the Revolutionary War cut off the trade of molasses and inspired disdain toward all things English, the old drink of choice — rum — was abandoned. Whiskey quickly ascended to the throne of American spirits and subsequently entered the hearts of patriots everywhere."
No problems, Lately I've been taking care of three at the least. Cheers buddy and if I have to say goodbye to my Liver, Well So be it ! I'm going out kicking and most likely moaning.
Whiskey ? Aww, if only I lived when they brewed it a half mile from my old homestead. There's a story there for another time.
