    That is a SSI for the 84th Division. The photo looks like a boot camp photo. Maybe he got his basic training with the 84th and was later transferred to the 76th Division. Couldn't find any confirmation of that, but it's a possible explanation.

    I noticed that, too. I attributed it to how the light was shining on it, or rather, reflecting off of it.
