    Born in an Ontario township in 1874, William Lyon Mackenzie King entered the Canadian legislature in 1908. From 1909 to 1911 he was Minister of Labour, and on Laurier's death in 1919 succeeded to the Leadership of the Canadian liberal Party. Premier in 1921 and from 1926 to 1930 he became Premier for the third time in 1935. He represented Canada at the Coronation in 1937, and he it was who on the outbreak of war; expressed Canada's resolve to stand with Britain in the defence of right.
