When going back to OD from the calcimine white paint did the troops remove the calcimine or put a new coat of OD over the white?
Helmets? some would have had a whitewash applied, which would just be washed off, where-as a helmet that had painted winter camo, another coat would have been applied, this would have happened to a lot of helmets and on several occassions, during it's lifetime in the field.. http://german-helmets.com/Camouflage Paint.htm ...good site for answers.
