Qatar? Really? Do they even have room for 9 stadiums? Do we really want to be running around 118 degree desert in June? How Many Germans, French, Brit's etc, are really excited about visiting the Middle East? I though Mussolini was angry about S. Africa! Hope he wasn't paying attention to this one.
thats´gonna cost Russia a whole lot of money first even if they get more money afterwards. First the winter olympics and then the Football WC....
Qatar decision is insane, money talks.. Bad on cameron,he dis'd his own broadcasters to the world but lost the bid anyway
When asked the same question by reporters of the news, his reply was: "he who doesnt take risks, doesnt drink champagne."
I see nothing wrong with Russia getting the cup. But Qatar???? LOL ..... how much you wanna bet that a few years from now, FIFA will have some second thoughts.
the english can't help but ruin their own chances - the bbc panorama program the week the decision was being made is just typical of the English media coverage being against the national interest
Russia is actually an interesting choice. I have been out of sorts lately so haven't seen where they are location the stadiums (probably around Moscow). I can't imagine they will spread them out all over the country. Russia does have some good stadiums and the Russia vs whomever games are going to be CRAZY - aka crazy Russian Fans all over the place. I think fan violence might be an issue, but we shall see. And yes, Qatar is another WTF moment. High-heat-areas are NOT GOOD for sports in general. You'll see a lot of dehydrated players getting injured. EDIT: I just asked a friend 'What do you call people from Qatar? (America...Americans, etc).' She responded 'Qatar Heroes?'....lol
I read that it will be 15 cities of the European side Russia, or that´s what Putin said in an interview. We´ll see what cities will be among those 15 in a couple of years´time, I guess.
Just a note for those that object to Qatar or any other 'hot' climate, this is the WORLD cup. This means that players of the tourney should be able to operate in any environmental condition, hot or otherwise. If you can't, then you are not much of a professional as an athlete. Olympic competitors have to encounter all sorts of weather, and we have even had an 'altitude' Olympics in Mexico City. I might also remind people that Qatar is not, in fact, a 'hot' environment. It's a desert, where temps fluctuate with the activity of the sun. It will get quite cold at night, so the daytime 'heat' is not really an issue. What would you be saying if the WC was hosted in a tropical city, like Denpassar.....or Rio Di Janero? Brazillian soccer players are the best in the world, and they don't seem to have issues with playing and winning in cold weather. They play many of their rep matches in Brazil's 'wet' season, and are still the best in the world. Point taken?
