hi guys please tell me if there is a battle in either world wars or operation that you would like to be made into a film
Why, Kursk / Prokhorovka of course. There is a huge gap in Hollywood coverage when it comes to the Eastern front, and Kursk is the obvious place to start. I would also like to see a movie about the actions of 28th Infantry in the Ardennes, kind of like a sequel to "When Trumpets Fade" (which is also about the 28th).
I should think a movie about Kharkov or sevastopol would be appreciataed. There is much to learn about these two battles.
post subject I would prefer NO more films of battles of WW1/WW2. Reason being that they are all glamourised and distorted and in most cases far from the truth. This results in the present generations being given false pictures which unfortunately most of them believe. For one example, the american ENIGMA film.
Of course. I should probably have written just "movie" coverage. However, Hollywood is where the money is and I see movies as 'entertainment', not as a means of education (because few others do). The best you can hope to achieve is to show people something like the way it really was. This is why I support the making of war movies, unlike merlin here, and this is why I say everyone should see "When Trumpets Fade".
the reason im asking this is because a friend of mine who is 20 is making a film company and has nearly finished. when he finishes the films he plans to make he wants to make a war film that is very historically correct and realistic. plus he wanted to do a battle that no one has done before so thats why he tasked me to find out.
Hmm, I agree with Roel that film is a useful tool in educating people about, well, anything. I also agree with Merlin that war films so far (especially popular war films) have a tendancy to be over-glamourized, inaccurate hogwash. Also, I do wonder if a truely accurate war film would not be rather a little disturbing (which I suppose is the point, if you are trying to point out how bad it is). It would certainly get an instant 18 rating.
Re: post subject true but his first films are gojng to be horror films so he goes for realism in charcters and weapondary
Re: post subject *sarcastic laughter* Band of Brothers is very very much romanticized in terms of its storyline, even though some scenes are quite realistic. What I would suggest, once again, is that you go see "When Trumpets Fade". Right now. Ricky, yes, a realistic war movie will get an 18 rating (or whatever you have similar to that where you live). So what? If you want to do it, do it right.
Re: post subject yeh i will make sure that me and my friend do if you guys are willing to help us out with some historical background?
post subject Band of Brothers? well over done. If you look at the credits at the end and see how many were KIA, I can tell you that the Kings Shropshire Light Infantry lost more than that on the first day, June 6th. War films? have any of you ever seen "All quiet on the Western Front" "Die Schmetterling" (German title)? that film shows you what war is about. I suppose as Roel said, entertainment is what "puts bums on seats", not some 18year old kid being cremated alive in a tank and his mates having to go and recover the same tank about a week later. Sorry lads, keep your war films, no more from me on this.
Re: post subject Yes your right Merlin, Band of Brothers is also a Hollywood creation, and was made for intertaining people, not to educate them. And Yeah "all quiet on the western front" is also maby one of the best war-movies ive ever seen, along with Das-Boot.
Re: post subject ive read the book twice "band of brothers" but some moments in the series still dont mach
For battles skipped, Hurtgen forest (well, there is When trumpets fade) or Krasny Bor would be a good beginning. The question for your argument should be: you want a movie or a documentary?
