I just got Where Eagles Dare from Netflix today. Never seen it before, can't wait to watch it. Also, it was announced recently that there is going to be a bluray release of this in the future.

That is certainly a movie I will stay up to watch if I catch it on TCM. "Broadsword Calling Dannyboy".

The book is way better than the movie

here are too many great scenes I liked in that movie. Like Brad, this is one movie I will always stay up to see.

Some favorites of mine in that movie include the Cable Car scenes, as well as the scene where they are trying to escape along with the three traitors-and Clint Eastwood is calmly awaiting the Germans to come up the stairs and is there with his MP-40 at the ready.

I don't know that I could really pick out any one scene that I enjoyed most. I liked this film more for the intrigue than for the action.

Richard Burton was more of a voice than an actor, but in this film his style was almost perfect. Clint Eastwood almost manages a smile, and his performance is remarkable as well for it's 'laid back' quality.

I don't see how a remake can improve...how do you replace these two actors? Alistair Maclean's book will always top the film, but it is a very rare film that outdoes any book. Your imagination can always conjure up a better picture. I particularly like the sound effects for this movie....check out the FLAK ammunition going up. The action sequences are timed to perfection, and Burton is entirely MENACING posing as Himmler's brother/relative.

Wonder exactly what location was used for the "Schloss Adler", I believe this translates to "Eagle's Castle"?. Eastwood always shines with war films, (he should have made more of them as an actor), and when directing them gives us a darned good flick to boot, as the more recent "Flags of Our Fathers/Letters from Iwo Jima" shows well.

All in all, "Where Eagles Dare" has certainly stood the test of time....

I can't really recall much of this movie - was it this WWII movie displaying Helicopters landing on a castle in the mountains ?

If so, I do however remember the reaction of a group of German Veterans (Former Gebiergsjaeger) who were totally outraged about this film, and couldn't understand - "why would a German TV station show and promote such a garbage to the German public"

    Regards
    Kruska

Yup, you got the correct movie Kruska. I also read something about the German Veterans' comments.
