i was given this belt a few years ago and was wondering if there was any value to and to get some more info on its history. I was told it was taken off a german soldier during battle, the battle supposedly a famous one but i can't recall the name, it apperently happened in north belgium towards the end of the war, it was the second time a battle had been fought here and the first time the british had suffered a lot of casulties, second time around they cleaned up. The third picture is a mark dated 1938 hannover. Any help on the battle name and an estimated value would be great, i dont think im going to be selling but it would be nice to have an idea
The buckle is german army issue and the belt itself looks like DAK issue ? Can't help you with a value, but I'm sure one of our resident experts will.
Deutsche Afrikakorps http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afrika_Korps BTW You may want to go to the new members section of the forum and introduce yourself.
thanks for that, do you think they could have been in Belgium at anytime, as it appears they were mostly in Africa, Any ideas on a name of the battle that happened in Belgium, (Twice) i have looked through google but cant seem to find a great deal
Famous Battle fields in Belgium are Malmedy, St Vith , Bastogne , Antwerp among others. The belt is worth quite a lot, the buckle alone = 70 euros plus with the belt it could fetch around 200.
Really??? that has surprised me actually i thought they would be really common items therefore be very low in value
As Skipper related, it could be any number of engagements. A large portion of the individual battles that comprised the Battle of the Bulge took place in Belgium.
it was info related from mother whos memory is pretty bad lol, others have said that the belt and buckle dont belong together but she is pretty sure the person who gave it to her said it was together when it was taken and there is no reason to doubt that, how they did come together is a mystery lol. What i have found out is that the makers Lehmann & Wunderberg of Hannover where M4 makers and this buckle doesn't come up for sale very often
The belt IS either DAK or Tropical in nature. Skipper is right the belt is worth more than the buckle is in this cae. I don't collect DAK or Tropical but the belt is easily worth about $250 or more US$$$$
