I would like to see the Soviet Union added as a Nation at: http://lostaircraft.com/database.php

Trouble is, the database was set up with the command structure of the RAF and USAAF. Problematic...

Too many levels of hierarchy, too complicated how to fit in the Soviet Air Forces.

    A. - the Soviets had two top level air forces. not one, aka RAF or USAAF. They had
    1. Soviet Air Forces http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_Air_Forces
    2. Soviet Air Defence Forces http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_Air_Defence_Forces

Is the Administrator stuck with two separate "nations" for the Soviet Union to make this work at http://lostaircraft.com

    Secondly:
Is there an English Language list of the Command Structure of these two Air Forces anywhere?
I have been unable to find it. - It being so complicated. Three complete overhauls of the Soviet Air Force in WW2 then wholesale renaming of Groups etc. SEVERAL times...

There is a list of a few groups and squadrons - enough to get the Nation set up for starters at:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_Air_Forces

My study so far makes me think the Soviet Air Force was so big, so complicated, so many changes and renames that it would be near impossible to enter it into the lostaircraft database.

Anyone able to simplify it enough?

What the Admin is stuck with, what has to be entered sequentially to set up a new nation is:

The Name of the Military Branch (i.E. Royal Air Force)

    The Roundel (any Picture format)
    WW2 era: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/34/Red_star.svg/220px-Red_star.svg.png

    Unit1 (i.E. Command)

    Unit2 (i.E. Squadron or Group)

    Unit3 (i.E. If needed Squadron)

Unit4 - one other low level, aka squadron (that does not appear to work too well and may be best avoided... though he seems to have made it work for Belgium.)

    One example only:
I had never heard a word about Soviet Strategic Bombing / Long Range Air Force (ADD) and how effective it was.
1,114 sorties over Germany in 1942. etc etc.

I had grown up thinking the Soviet Air Force(s) must have been army cooperation squadrons only...
    _______________

I am just about mental soup trying to figure this out.
    - About ready to say as the easiest solution he needs to create separate Soviet Nation for three separate periods of WW2...

    Joking I hope...

It's something I would really like to see done. But...

There were heavy bombers forces, but they were not effective in strategic bombing. The Soviet was based on three basic commands; air defense, heavy bombers and general purpose. General purpose included cap, ground attack, general purpose fighter bomber and transport. The commands assigned to the front were based on specific mission. so there would be a specific air army that included all but heavy bomber and air defense. Each air army had specific commands attacked to it based on what the mission was; so there would be general air defense, ground attack, ground support fighter bombers and transport.
