I've only just started getting into history and was very interested in the fact that so many people have different ideas of when the second world war actually ended.

One person I have spoken to claimes that the war ended in 1990 when Germany was reunified, and obviously elsewhere it states that it ended in 1945. Is the fact about it ending in 1990 true? If so this surely had something to do with the Berlin wall coming down?

The Treaty of San Francisco was officially signed by 49 nations on the 8th September 1951. It came into force on the 28th of April 1952 and served to officially end the Second World War.
