If you could build your own modern armed forces , what would the forces consist of , how many troops will it have , what kind equipment would it use , what aircraft would you want , what kind of ships would you want in your navy ? , Would this topic be better suited to "The members lounge" ?

Spanish infantry, USAF pilots, British armored troopers, German General Staff.
I'm not decided on the navy yet.

Oh, and by the way, US money to pay the expenses :D

I would take German infantry,USAF pilots in JAS 39 gripen C , swedish armored troops in strv 122 and cv 9040 , german staff and swedish navy with visby class stealth corvettes and gotland class submarines , and for helicopters i would have the swedish hkp 14 as light transport and tactical lifter chinook as heavy transport and apache longbow or tiger as attack helicopter.

    my little army/navy/airforce. :D

Air Force - Israeli crew, US equipment.
Army - well, a pick & mix of NATO equipment really. British troops (sheer nationalism, I'm afraid!)
Navy - USN & RN combined, I think. But, controversially, I would have USN submarines with RN crews.
Basically because American subs are better, but British subs on joint exercises acheive the same / similar results...

Oh, and American-sized funding. Yes, I know you have had cutbacks, but still!

Since nobody seems reticent to let their nationalism show I will follow suit. I would just choose the best available in each area...
USAF, USN/USMC and US Army an unbeatable combination ;)

In general the united states has the best equipped army for an army it's size (1.5 million) but other countries are better in specific areas , well , I do admit the U.S has the best airforce. :D , maybe I should have said "best equipped" air force.

    Airforce: Dutch soldiers/US equipment
Army: Dutch soldiers/german equipment (all big things, not things like personal equipment)
Navy: Dutch soldiers/Mix of Dutch/US equipment

''USAF, USN/USMC and US Army an unbeatable combination''

    Says who?
As far as I can see they have never fully conquered a country:
Lets look at the big ones:
Vietnam: With all there great skills and equipment they failed to beat an inferior enemy.

Somalia: They attacked a town overflowing of RPG's with Blackhaks, they where cut to pieces.

Iraq: They still don't have full control of the country.

And than we don't even talk about a big/strong country like China or North Korea or Russia...

+ They aint good at maintaining the peace, wich is the most important part of a war...

Ok, we are NOT getting into another 'my army is better than yours' contest.
We are NOT getting into another 'the US army is no good, despite being bigger & having better/equally good equipment' slanging match.

    Thank you,

    Mr Ricky Moderator. :D

This concerns mostly modern warfare and -materials, so it's just fine in here. Thanks for opening this wonderful thread. :D

I hope it stays this good, cause I can see the agressive comparisons coming from miles ahead here. Please guys, keep it nice and don't attack each other with your newly created forces ;)

Well there is certainly a difference between being somewhat nationalistic in ones choices for their Army (which almost everyone does) and attacking the choices of other posters with scorn and derision.
Thus I will give Jeffreys insults the response that they merit, which is none. ;)
PS I think we have been down this road before. The stones are becoming worn.

Grieg, please don't comment on people's behaviour in open forum - USE THE MODERATORS.
It is why we are here.

PanzerProfile is your Moderator in this topic, but you can contact Skua, Roel or myself if you wish (and hopefully PP won't be too insulted! :D ).

    Ok, stern talk over...

Pah, I'd load up my attack subs with nuclear-armed torpedoes (originally developed by the Soviets to attack US aircraft carriers) and blow the bottom out of your battleships!

    So ner! *sticks out tongue*

(Oh, hang on, no attacking each other's forces... ;) )
