Not on that list, but one of the best French war films I ever saw was one called 'Les Morfalous'. A sort of French Kelly's Heroes, slightly comedic, great watch but hard to find .

The other one i'd really recommend isn't WW2, but really worth it anyway - called The Battle of Algiers. Documentary-like story of the Algerian war and absolutely excellent.

(both available on P2P if you're that way inclined)

If you like Belmondo I really recommend Un Weekend a Zuytcoote it's about the Operation Dynamo and it's an excellent anti-hero scenario.

'Zuytcoote' is easier to find under 'Weekend at Dunkirk' - not seen it will try to get - looks good - will try the others too, think saw Petain once though. thanks:)

There was a really good one i saw once set in Indochina, was called 'La 317ème section'. Can't beat it for realism if i remember rightly, but was a while ago.

Great stuff. Would you guys mind posting these titles and names in the War movies thread? These would be greatly welcome there. Also, if you do? please list names of some of the Actors too so they can be added to the list.

or the old black and white version

L' Armee Des Ombres (Army in the Shadows)
The publisher of fiba recently saw for the first time Jean-Pierre Melville's 1969 somber colour film L' Armee Des Ombres (Army in the Shadows) . Having himself experienced the French Underground during WW II as an 'evadee' - having been himself shot-down over Normandy before the Allied invasion but not caught by the Germans for 10 months - he was keen to see how Melville handled the 'bosses' of that Underground. BRILLIANT! Nothing short of EXACTLY how those brave people behaved during the entire occupation of France. No other war film has come even CLOSE to this masterpiece. Now that it is out as a DVD

I very much like Jean-Pierre Melville's 'L'Armee des Ombres' ( Army In The Shadows was the English title ).

One of the very best 'resistance' movies, superbly acted by Lino Ventura.
