Hi Guys and Gals, a short question. Has anybody an more detailed pic of an French MAS36 Sniper rifle? Good ones are hard to find and i need an more detailed pic( or some more) of the Scope mount. Reason is that i want to build up such an sniper. Thank you in advance!
Can't say I've seen nor heard of the mas 36 scoped, ulrich..the lebel, yes..I have seen the mas 36 with scope? but modern scope mounted..
Hi Ray, the French Foreign Legion used them as Sniper rifles during the Algerian war. For the lack of contacts i have to search for pics.
Thats the rifle Sam. But i miss pics of the mount and the used scope. If you can find some pics, please let me know!
Thats the pic I was talking about to ulrich, sam...but I can't find anything dating back to foreign legion with a scope?...
Thanks Sam for your efforts! This is looking like a sort of S&K mount to me but if there will be nothing to find it would be a solution too!
Thanks Skipper, good site! If i can translate it right it, the mounting above is a B-Sqaure mount with Tasco scope rings holding a Henslodt scope. The lower is a homemade scope mount and looks like a scope mount for an K98. But it is good looking. Can you correct me if i´m wrong on my translation please?
Did you see the pic with all the rifles leaning agaisnt the car? Most impressive isn't it? Glad you can use the pictures. Also the Mas36 Lunette was not only used by the Foreign Legion. They had it as a an Elite Unit, but many other troops were also fitted with it, especially mountain troops in Algeria. Do you know guards in National parks in former French colonies still use it nowadays? I saw this on a documentary on Tv the other day. The poor guys were facing poachers with modern automatic guns.
Thanks for the additional information and your help Skipper! Interesting was that the French forces used this Sniper rifle a long time after the war, while other nations had better ones or Semi Autos in use. Also interesting is that it his very hard to get ammo or cases in that caliber and i have to convert them out of the Swiss 7.5x55mm cases.
They had other ones too , but I suppose as many other armies in the world they kept using older models for several years after the war.
