hello I need your help and I think you might be able to help me, perhaps you know somebody who could find... I contribute in France View attachment 14033 to a forum about 39/45. We have a picture of an admiral, but we don't know his name. That 's my mission : to find his name Navy Cross, Silver Star, Meritorious Service Medal, ? (2 citations) , American Defence Service Medal (2 Citations), American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal (2 Citations, WWII Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon (3 Citations) Any help ou link to someone email or website would be very appreciated
HELLO I'm sorry to see that nobody seems to have an idea to help me. this picture comes from Cherburg Museum, so I think that he was engaged in the battle of normandy. Dominique
Can only find info on 2 Rear Admirals so far, John L. Hall, Jr. and Don P Moon. I think it looks a bit like Don P Moon. Will keep searching though.!!
Found mention of Rear admirals, Alan G Kirk and Morton L. Deyo. Your picture is Definately not a photo of either of them. Seems Rear Admiral Don P Moon sadly took his own life after the landings in the South of France in August 1944.
You mentioned his medals. Well, looks like this picture is taken after the war (WWII Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon) and I think you must look at admirals who where engaged in the Pacific.
He may have been in Pearl Harbor on board the USS Arizona (Don P. Moon), would that qualify him for the Philipine Liberation Ribbon? If so, there is a resemblance in the pictures by my poor eyes. I also read battle fatigue may have been a factor in his suicide.
The Victory Medal was awarded AFTER August 1945. Did the man commit suicide before this date? If yes, it has to be another one.
It looks like the dates of award for the Phillipine Liberation Medal do no coincide with his service. IN order for him to have two service stars on ribbon he would have had to participated in actions which occured after he committed suicide:

Any chance it's Conolly? Richard L. Conolly - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The Pacific War Online Encyclopedia: Conolly, Richard L.
Not him either , Conolly has bigger eyebrowes and a very different shaped nose. I checked Moon: he committed suicide on August 1944 so according the his recalls , it can't be him Too bad because Monn was at Utah and looks like the picture. .
thank you so much, all of you, I wish Inspector Columbo was still alive to help us. I don't know anything about medalls, I hope there is no mistake, I just copied what somebody told me. an oher freind told me he could be :be Isaac C Kidd, but he couldn't because he died in Pearl Harbor. this one was engaged in the Battle of Normandy, (maybe he was not yet admiral at that time) this picture comes from Cherbourg Museum, and he is supposed to have been in Philippine Islands, according to his military medals
Turner makes sense , he was in the Pacific as his medals suggest. Also I doubt the man from your picture served in Normandy (he would have the adequate decorations otherwise). Here is a picture of Turner, it would be interesting to compare the recalls and see if they are similar.
hi skipper sorry I can't see the picture, there's nothing just a cross, can you try again please Domi
View attachment 14054 I founded a picture on goole :do you mean this man ? don't you think the falling eyes corners are very different ?
