Hi, just found 2 old photos of my dad from WW2. He was an RAF Policeman. The first one has written on the back "Tidmarsh Grange May 1944." And appears to be his unit but not as big a group as the 2nd one. The 2nd one appears to be an official photo as it is his unit in formal pose but no details about it. The back of the photo paper has "Crown Copyright Reserved" all over it with what I believe is the Air ministry logo. In the right hand corner of the photo is what appears to be German signage and i know my Dad was in Germany till the 46. I am trying to work out how to attach a photo as mine is too big to attach.
That's a great photo. I would guess it was taken in Germany, but I have no idea when. Do you have any other material you can share?
Hi, there was a lot of RAF activity in that area of Berkshire; HQ 50 Group Maintenance Command was at Sulhamstead House, there was a Flying Training School at Sheffield Farm in Theale, and also a Royal Ordnance Factory specialising in engineering at Theale. http://home.comcast.net/~aero51/html/airfield/theale.htm http://www.berkshirehistory.com/castles/sulhamstead_house.html http://www.gracesguide.co.uk/Royal_Ordnance
Have you sent off for his RAF service records? http://www.raf.mod.uk/community/support/requestforinformationfromservicerecords.cfm
cheers here is the 2st photo that has "Tidmarsh Grange May 1944." on the ack. Notice it has The Tidbury Studio, Pangbourne sa the photographer in the lower left had corner. Edit: My dad is on the 2nd row, 3rd from Left. The guy in the middle is a Air Commodore, next to him on his right as he is sat is a Wing Commander. All are wear RAF Police (RAFP) arm bands, The same 2 officers are in the other photo.
I have loads of snaps that my dad or his friends took of them in Belgium, Holland and Germany, mainly relaxing, I will try and add them later.
Have now worked out that the Air Commodore is Air Commodore De Putron, who was the Provost Marshal
the first photo was taken at HQ No 2 Group RAF Gutersloh, I have just had that confirmed by some one in the RAFP who knows the photo.
if any one is interested I have hosted some of my dads photos and stuff for people to look at here http://topdog7056.zenfolio.com/p621746289
