just about to start building an airfix 1/72 Stuka to join the growing Kampfgruppe Von Jolly... (where did i get that name from??? ) Anyone have an unusual paint scheme for a stuka??? I am looking for a high ranking officers plane as I have cut the canopy to be open and replaced the pilots head for one with a nice peaked cap! I dont know how it stays on either but he looks cool!! Want something unusual, pref from the EAstern Front??? Any ideas?????????????????????????????????????
Don´t know if this is an unusual thing but Rudel´s plane looked rather "great" to me: From: http://www.pilotenbunker.de/Stuka/Rudel/rudel.htm
Kai, # 1 there is no proof that this is Rudels stuka in the photo. this is from the Deutsche Wochenschau films as I have the copy. #2 the profiles edges are too soft, compare athe hard erratic edge in the photo plus the spinner is white with a single black spiral not the othere way around that simon has protrayed.......... from Herr Kritikal
Now thats a sexy lookin plane... maybe i should portray Rudel over my battlefield... Best buy some more T-34 kits if I do...
Thanx Erich for the comments. Like you said the original footage does not convincingly show that it was Rudel´s plane, I guess. Anyway great camouflage!! BTW, got any idea Erich if someone else flew the Ju-87+ 37 mm cannons late in the war other than Rudel?
yes sir my friend ! although some of the SG's had turned over their Ju 87D's for the Fw 190F's and G's nearly all the Ost Front SG's had a 10th Panzer staffel armed with the Ju 87G kanonvogel, so in the case of Rudel his 10./SG 2 had at least 15 Ju 87's with the 3.7cm weapon dealing death blows to Soviet armor till the last days .... the film footage is from February-March 1945 and could be one of any Ju87G's from SG 2. As the whole fuselage is not shown in the films it is nigh impossible to mention the unit, although for propaganda reasons, Rudels name is always brought up......... Erich ♠
just passin thru............ Red I am aware of a personal name on some a/c cockpits. Different colored spinners sometimes associated with different gruppe's and that is about it. Any Geschwader or gruppe/staffel emblem was removed by early 1943 normally for id reasons. E ~
! Yes ! what unit are U interested in ? I think there is or was a web-site that listed or did show in colour the Gruppe emblems of the Stuka-Geschwader maybe via Marcus Wendels site or a sub link off his site ? Wish I had a scanner as I have the emblems.......... E ~
Cheers Erich, I will have a look. Not sure what unit, just want something out of the ordinary as its gonna be the centrepiece for my wargames army and its a STUKA!!!
Why mess around with wimpy 1/72 scale !! You should think big like this guy. http://www.strictlyscale.com/stuka52000a.jpg Yes I know the color scheme stinks but it is BIG and would look good on your car.
cant see that fitting on my wargames board, unless i get my action men in the back garden... now theres a thought...
late on this one but isn't the Airfix Stuka a Ju87B, whereas Rudel was more famed for the 'D'..? Sexiest Stukas of all were the Western Desert/Libya ones with 'Giraffe' or 'Snake's Head' markings ; these were all 'B' models too. ( I just can't get over how UGLY that aircraft was.... )
any stuka is a beautiful stuka if youre German in 1940... Just started work on the pilot, decided to have him waving out of the open canopy, not very realistic but it will look good on the wargames table! been hacking up suitable bodies to make him... Still not found a paint scheme that really does it for me, but I do like the desert patterns, but I think a grey/white number might look good... wondering about scratchbuilding the 37mm cannons, but I like the look of lots of bombs!
