"The Second World War "biological clock" will indeed stop ticking five or eight years from now, as those Nazis who were the youngest to commit war crimes will be past the 100 years mark or nearing it then. They will certainly be beyond the reach of justice." "Last" Nazi war crimes suspect faces trial: how many more will there be? | Top Russian news and analysis online | 'RIA Novosti' newswire
It always makes me sad to read something like this. I can't take it knowing that all of these veterans are dying each week, and soon there'll be none left. The world will definitely be different without them
It makes you sad to read something about nazis dying? It makes me sad that so many vets die everyday , but not war criminals.. But it does make me sad that some of these criminals are let of the hook and now live peacefully in estonia and lithuania.
I was quoting huffle ...He said "It always makes me sad to read something like this"...Pretty sure the article was on war criminals
I dont understand why we would send them to countries that "love" nazis...Or did they just go their by themselves..Why not prosecute them here in the US?
I believe that the reason they went to those countries was based on their nationality. Unfortunate.....
On this Memorial Day 2009 it is sad to realize that we will soon have lost the great Americans who forged this country, and the world, into the noble ideals that were the only good that came from World War 2. After the war, America became not only the economic powerhouse that forged a generation of Americans that was better off, better fed, better housed, and happier than any generation that came before it - but also helped rebuild our former enemies both economically and ideologically -and actually made them better then they were before. They may have been the last noble American generation.
Not all german soliders were nazis,i think they deserve some respect in that they tryed to defend there homeland juste like howe Briton soilders did so. Fore thee rest of thee german nazi;s ,i don;t care for!
Well said Heidi-couldn't agree with you more. Im constantly having to correct people around my area that there is no such thing as a Nazi Army-and that not all German Soldiers were nazis as well as baby-killers-but you CAN'T convince Dumbkopfs of that. I know too many WWII German Vets to know that what we say in defending them-is 100% true. My best friend in Germany will turn 90 God willing, come this September. This man served on U 181 under the command of Wolfgang Luth, and stayed on U 181 through the end of the war-and after Luth left U 181-the Uboat was commanded by Kapitan zur See-Kurt Freiwald. My friend was a recipient of the German Cross in Gold and-neve was and never believed in what the nazis did. Cheers to you Heidi.
Whilst I do not generalise, because not every single member of the German Armed Forces was either a member of the NSDAP nor necessarily a Nazi symphatizer, I'd never say that German soldiers fought to defend their homeland as the British or Americans or even the Soviets did. First, because the Germans fought a war of agression. There is absolutely no comparisson there. And second, because the general aim of the war for Allies and Germans was very, very different. The latter was the imposition of a new European order, which involved the extermination or enslavement of millions of people. Yes, not all German soldiers were nazis. But they fought for Hitler. There is a difference with Allied veterans.
If it is true that he helped execute these heinous acts, he has had to live with what i hope is a life time of guilt, same time if he was a Nazi who did such acts let him hang. If not let the man finish the remaining few years of his life in peace
