The insignia on the armband is woven. Then it is sewn onto the armband itself. It didn't glow under blacklight.

Your armband is a fantasy piece...it never existed. Not to mention that it looks to have been made from felt.....

In all seriousness...I hope that the OP will come back on here if he has anymore questions instead of disappearing like so many others have. It is hard for me to have any sympathy for people that go out and buy stuff like this without doing a modicum of research. The OP probably paid well over $200.00 for this armband...10 minutes of research using the internet would have saved him the heartache.

I know I bang the drum over and over about doing your own research and buying reference books before collecting...but it just does not seem to be 'vogue' I guess. :blahblah:

I can't frequently post. I have not yet once received proof proving this is a fake piece, from many forums to my own private research. I had a seamstress(who's husband is also a ww2 collector) compare the photo previously given in this post and other examples online, and she could not find anything to prove the woven insignia was incorrect in anyway (in belief that the "real" examples were actually real). Then we black lighted the piece and could get no reaction from the materials that it was made from. As of the felt opinion, many SS armbands were made of heavy felt, that is a fact. There are a few pieces that have always been called "fantasy pieces" but my fellow collector has recently found a piece he has been searching for for 23 years, And comes to find there are only 2 known to exist. I paid a good price, but nothing to kill myself over or cause me to go insane, so it's more a mystery than a bankrupt. Honestly. Sorry guys/gals, I'm not disagreeing with you, but certainly not agreeing with you. CHEERS!

If it were me I would burn one of the threads to see if it burns or melts to ascertain the presence of Nylon in the material.

I mean no offense by this but you start out asking about authenticity...but after receiving two answers you say that you do not agree...why on earth then did you bother to ask in the first place? You obviously convinced yourself that it is original before posting...so why even bother asking. Had you simply posted photos and to share I could understand. But your first sentence on this forum starts out asking about authenticity. I wanted to address a few things one point at a time....

    1) 'I have not yet once received proof proving this is a fake piece, from many forums to my own private research.'
I have found in my many years of collecting TR artifacts that it really should be the other way around. You should have to prove to yourself that something is original...not reproduction. The former is a dangerous way to collect TR artifacts in my opinion.

    2) 'I had a seamstress(who's husband is also a ww2 collector) compare the photo previously given in this post and other examples online, and she could not find anything to prove the woven insignia was incorrect in anyway (in belief that the "real" examples were actually real).'
I have a family member that worked for a major US clothier for 30 years and she couldn't tell you period materials or production methods to save her life. I would take such advise with a grain of salt. But again...this is my opinion.

    3) 'Then we black lighted the piece and could get no reaction from the materials that it was made from.'
This is an elementary method to test cloth. Yes it will tell you if you are dealing with synthetic cloth...but what about period cloth that has been cleaned with modern day detergents? I have many armbands that have been cleaned at some point in their lives that will glow like they were from Chernobyl. The people that fake these pieces know this...they are smarter than many think.

    4) 'As of the felt opinion, many SS armbands were made of heavy felt, that is a fact.'
If this armband were original it would be very early... pre-war constructed and worn. You are talking about an organization that was relevant in the mid 1930's...not 1944. Felt was not being used then...wool was.

The bottom line on something like this is that it has never been found in a period periodical or period photo. If you are happy with it then great...but the fact that you are posting it on this forum asking for authenticity tells me a lot. The Icarus woven insignia looks to be 100% authentic...but adding the insignia to the armband is just 'jumping the shark' in my opinion.

But again...this is all my own opinion...no hard feelings.

This method applies to older fakes. The reproduction business has caught up for the most part and are using materials that will burn just like original material. When burning a thread from a BeVo insignia this test works better. Nearly all fake BeVo's melt. One should also be aware of that they used synthetic fibers other than Rayon during WW2. The Germans were very advanced for the time being due to lacking their own natural resources.

I totally understand, but then again, I never said i could prove it was authentic either. I was asking for authenticity, but telling me ones opinion isn't really proving anything to me. I'm looking for proof to prove it real or unreal. That's my thinking of proving something authentic or not. So far I haven't been shown one or the other. So it makes me frustrated when people just keep telling me what they THINK instead of helping me authenticate it or not by find facts and related. "Authenticity is my first problem, does anyone know how to tell authenticity on these pieces??", nobody has replied to the point of that question. I DO understand that i said i wanted some opinions, but i also stated info in the same sentence. I understand this can be misleading but i was hoping for a little 50-50. Like I said this is not "breaking the bank", but when I can't find either proof of it never existing or is existing, it leaves me intrigued and wanting help to find one or the other. I just wanted to clear the water. Sorry for any misunderstandings. Now, I will agree the icarus insignia is real. I'm almost 100% certain. I'd like to see if anyone knows about the variations of armbands the NSFK had because that's the part that has me skeptical too. No hard feelings, just a matter of misunderstandings i believe. Cheers mate. -BT

Points made and thread closed. we have other things to do on this forum, not to mention I proved it by comparing it to the back of an original. It is a fake period.
