HELP!!!!!!

    hi I'm going to get straight to the point i have a bullet shell with either 1 1ATS.D.1 60 or 1 IATS.D.60 i would like to know what gun this comes from and what caliber it is. my great grand father was in the royal army medical corps and i found it in an ancient cupboard in a leather bag with lots of medals and coins and a shell. also i am new and like brownies.     IMO, The medals may also be more interesting to view than the bullet.

    Well, this took a little bit of work, but I have found something for you on this, Scorpoll.

    It appears you have a Lebel 8x15R, Model 1886D with solid brass Ball D boat tail bullet of French manufacture in 1909.

    First, I found this website which gave me a French manufacturer - Atelier de Construction de Tarbes in Tarbes, France - from the code ATS.

    Then I found a couple of pics which look very similar to your cartridge markings on another website. Fortunately, it also had the above specifics regarding the cartridge and bullet. I believe the number across from the year is a 1, which probably indicates the quarter in which it was manufactured.

    Keep in mind, I am not an expert. You should get the above confirmed by someone who is, but I believe it is at least mostly accurate.
